Cotton Fields News - September 2010

WE WILL BE OPEN ON LABOR DAY, SEPTEMBER 6, FROM 10 TO 4.

New arrivals include "Cherish" from Kona Bay Fabrics and "Twelve Oaks" from Marcus Brothers.  Other recent deliveries have included clowns, batiks, and a big fat 50 yard bolt of muslin.  We are well supplied with Christmas and Halloween fabrics too.  Don't forget to check out "Last Light", a beautiful snowy winter scene panel and coordinates.

QUILT SHOWS

We'll be vendors at the following quilt shows this fall:

Sept. 24 & 25 - The Sandhill Quilters Guild presents "Quilting in the Pines IV" at the Pinehurst Fair Barn, NC Hwy 5, Pinehurst, NC.  Open each day from 10 am until 5 pm.  Admission $5.

Oct. 16 &17 - The Peace by Piecing Quilt Guild will hold their quilt show at the Wilson County Agricultural Center, 1806 Goldsboro Street SW, Wilson, NC.  Show hours are Saturday 10 am until 4:30 pm and Sunday 1 pm until 4 pm. 

Oct. 22, 23 & 24 - The Durham/Orange Quilters' Guild, Inc. presents "A Thread Runs Through It" at the American Tobacco Warehouse in Durham, NC.  Show hours are Friday and Saturday 10 am until 6 pm and Sunday 10 am until 5 pm.

Oct. 29 & 30 - The Twin Rivers Quilters Guild presents "Quilts for 300 Years" at the New Bern Riverfront Convention Center, New Bern, NC.  Open each day from 10 am until 5 pm.

New Classes

August 31 - Super Simple Beginner Quilt.  This one is a two color quilt, the Single Irish Chain.  The size is good for a baby or a holiday lap quilt.  Tuesdays for six weeks, 1 to 3, $40 plus supplies.

September 18 - Paper-Pieced Kaleidoscope.  This one is not intended for people who have never paper-pieced.  We'll make 9 blocks for an approx. 24" square wall hanging.  Color placement will make a big difference in the looks of each person's project.  Saturday, 10 to noon, $20 plus supplies.

October 9 - Ten Minute Table Runner.  A big thanks goes to my sewing sister-in-law, Jeri,  who sent me this idea!  It is really quick and easy!  Great last minute hostess gift or holiday decoration.  Saturday, 10 to noon, $20 includes fabric for one runner.

October 9 - Fabric Gift Bags.  Easy, easy!  Save the PLANET by making re-usable bags!  Saturday 1 to 3 pm, $10 plus supplies.   

What Else is New???

Quilt Challenge - The winner of our "A New Twist" quilt challenge is Gayle Helm from Wilson.  See all the quilts in the challenge by clicking on "2010 Quilt Challenge" in the left hand menu.  You can still see last year's challenge by clicking on "Color My World" challenge.

Shop Hop -  We are already busy planning for next year's hop Feb. 2 through 5, 2011.  (A list of 2010 shop hop winners can be found by clicking "Shop Hop" in the left hand menu.)

Batting Reminder:  We carry Quilters Dream Batting in cotton, polyester, and cotton/poly blend in sizes from craft to king.  Orders from this company arrive quickly, so let me know if you have a special need.  Once you've tried it, you won't want anything else.  We can special-order wool, silk/bamboo blend and charcoal gray, too.  

Machine Quilting Service - Lilly Lucier comes to Cotton Fields on the 4th Tuesday of each month to pick up and deliver quilts.  She offers a large variety of quilting patterns and has 20 years experience.  PLEASE measure your quilt top before you come! $5 handling charge for quilts that contain ZERO Cotton Fields fabrics or batting. 

 

This 'N That

QWAC's - Quilting Women Acting Crazy!  We meet on Friday afternoons at about 1 pm.  It's a lot of fun with quilting friends sharing patterns, snacks and more.  Come join us some time.

Mondays- Drop in quilting at 1 PM.  Bring what you are working on.  Another opportunity to sit, stitch and visit with friends in a relaxed atmosphere. Sometimes there is a free demo during this time. 

Artrageous Fiber Art- Artrageous Quilters meet the first Saturday of the month, usually at Cotton Fields.  Call ahead and check on times and the month's program.  This group is open to anyone with an interest in exploring new directions in fiber art.  Our 2010 challenge "Fabric Gossip" is in progress.   Anyone is welcome to come!!!  The fun starts at 11 am.  Next meeting date:  September 4.   

Book and Magazine Exchange - Quilters are readers too.  You can drop off or pick up paperback books or old quilt magazines.  No other kinds of magazines, please. 

Newsletters are no longer being mailed.  Please add your email address to our list so that you can be notified of updates, sales, etc.  You can check in on the website any time at all!
